How not to do hair oiling? Most common mistakes.

Hair oiling is said to be one of the best hair care treatments. It is done by lots of women living in different parts of the world. It brings amazing effects regardless of your hair colour, structure, density and how damaged your hair is. It improves the condition of hair and scalp and makes your strands look much prettier. Check mistakes that should be avoided during hair oil treatment.

Firstly, do not apply the oil to very dirty and greasy hair.

Why? Hair oiling wouldn’t make any sense. The excess of sebum, dust and other impurities block the access of the oil into the internal structure of your strands. Obviously, you don’t need to wash your hair before every oiling. Remember, however, that sebum settled on your scalp speeds up hair loss, and in combination with some oils may cause irritation. What is more, dirt and sebum are the perfect feed for bacteria that triggers dandruff. If you apply the oil to hair that was washed two or three days earlier, you can wash it off after a few hours. You will surely condition both hair and scalp in this way.

Secondly, do not apply too much of the oil.

If you apply the oil to clean and dry hair, using too much of the oil can make it greasy or (in extreme cases) lead to the occurrence of dandruff. Result? You must wash your hair once again, with a strong purifying shampoo. Therefore, remember to choose the amount of oil suitable for your hair length, thickness and damage. Applying less oil and adding some mask or conditioner is a much better idea.

Thirdly, bad choice of the oil.

Choose the oil that suits your hair porosity which means how raised your hair cuticles are. Saturated oils are the best for low porosity hair (healthy, smooth and shiny) so try shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil or cocoa butter. Medium porosity hair has slightly raised cuticles; use monounsaturated oils in hair care. Olive oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, macadamia oil and peach seed oil work well. High porosity hair is the most damaged and prone to damage. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils are able to improve its condition effectively. You should test: linseed oil, soya oil, corn oil or evening primrose oil.

Fourthly, do not apply the oil if your hair does not need it.

Some hair doesn’t need oiling. If there is no product (oil or scalp conditioner) that brings satisfactory effects, you don’t need to use it. Your hair is so nourished, healthy and strong that you don’t have to provide it with extra vitamins and minerals. Even if you extend the time of the treatment, you won’t achieve any results. Conclusion? Your hair is beautiful! You should be happy.

Fifthly, you use only the oil.

Hair oiling isn’t enough. If your hair is very damaged, requires immediate and deep nourishment and effective repair, you must provide it with extra ingredients. Use masks, conditioners, scalp treatments or diet supplements. You can also make an appointment in a hair salon to get a special treatment which will make your hair healthy and beautiful. You won’t regret it!
